Our Classes

Classical Ballet Classes in King's Lynn

Classical Ballet is at the heart of our ethos at JHHAD and the foundation of all dance genres. It provides the pupils with a great sense of discipline and technique. We offer a strong foundation in ballet that enhances and improves training, benefiting other genres of dance.

If you're looking for baby ballet classes, many of our younger pupils begin with nursery ballet, where very basic ballet steps are learnt through imagery and mime. Pupils will also learn and have the opportunity to take their Pre-Primary exam in this class. These classes are always very popular and are packed with fun-filled ideas for the young children to enjoy. As our pupils develop through the grades, we teach a strong foundation in technique and foster a love of classical ballet, which brings out the performance aspect of the work.

We offer Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) exams termly, starting from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2 Ballet. Many of our pupils complete the RAD & ISTD Vocationals before continuing their professional careers. RAD character work commences from Grade 1.

We offer pointe work training as part of the RAD & ISTD syllabus and great care and attention is given to the pupils in this area. Poorly trained ballet dancers are more prone to injury, so developing the correct technique is our priority.

Alongside RAD & ISTD ballet classes, we also offer Junior, Intermediate and Senior Ballet Coaching. In these classes our aim is to increase flexibility, strength, and technique to aid classical development. Pupils attending these classes progress quickly. These classes are open to anyone attending the dance school.

Modern

Modern dance is often the most commonly recognised style, as many professional shows and companies use modern and jazz as a base for their choreography. It incorporates the technical elements of ballet in a more stylised and free way, allowing the dancer to interpret a wide range of musical styles. Modern dance encourages pupils to explore different dynamics and expressive performance styles in their dancing.

As an essential part of a well rounded dance education, modern is required for all pupils wishing to be considered for company classes. JHHAD offers ISTD Modern from Primary to Advanced 2, and pupils can take examinations at all levels.

Tap

This class is a favorite among many of our students. Everyone loves the opportunity to explore the new dance moves taught in this class, while also mastering the classic moves. Our amazing instructors make sure everyone gets individual attention while keeping the class collaborative. Want to find out more? Get in touch with us today.

Jazz

Junior, Inter & Senior Jazz classes are non-syllabus based. These classes provide a dynamic influence to training using current music and styles. Our weekly classes work on different pieces of choreography broadening the dancers knowledge of dance vocabulary whilst working quickly to pick up the style and steps. Styles will include, lyrical, musical theatre, strong modern, blues, street and many more. Our pupils develop confidence, performance skills and a stronger technique to enhance their modern work. These classes are open to all pupils and will turn them into stronger all-round dancers.

Stretching & Limbering

These classes are offered to aid pupils strength, agility, and suppleness. The class is aimed at the Junior, Inter and Senior pupils in the school and consists of a warm-up with limbering stretches, leg and feet strengthening exercises, and adage. The pupils also work on their abdominal muscles and core strength. Stretching will incorporate the use of blocks and thera bands to improve the strength and flexibility of the pupils legs and feet.

JHHAD Company

JHHAD Company is separated into Junior, Intermediate and Senior classes and only pupils who study the three dance disciplines of Ballet, Modern and Tap are eligible for invitation.

Pupils who are invited to these classes will be entered in a variety of categories; from solos, duets, trios and quartets, to group numbers. It is a highly competitive industry and many of Mr Joshua's students have shown great improvement from an early introduction into this environment which has taken them on into professional performing arts careers.

*Students who enrol onto a JHHAD Scholarship are given entry into Company class free of charge.
